If you abide in Me and My word abides in you, then you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.
Following is a conversation with God from an email I recently received. At first it may sound almost trite, but there’s truth in here.
Me (in a tizzy) : God, can I ask you something?
GOD: Sure.
Me: Promise you won’t get mad?
GOD: I promise.
Me (frustrated): Why did you let so much stuff happen to me today?
GOD: What do you mean?
Me: Well I woke up late.
GOD: Yes
Me: My car took forever to start.
GOD: Okay.
Me (growling): At lunch, they made my sandwich wrong, and I had to wait.
GOD: Hmmmm.
Me: On the way home, my phone went dead, just as I picked up a call
GOD: All right
Me (loudly): And to top it all off, when I got home, I just wanted to soak my feet in my foot massager and relax, but it wouldn’t work. Nothing went right today! Why did you do that?
GOD: Well let me see….. the death angel was at your bed this morning and I had to send one of the other angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that.
Me (humbled): Oh.
GOD: I didn’t let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that might have hit you if you were on the road.
Me (ashamed): …………
GOD: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick and I didn’t want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn’t afford to miss work.
Me (embarrassed): Oh.
GOD: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give a false witness about what you said on that call, I didn’t even let you talk to them so you would be covered
Me (softly): I see God.
GOD: Oh and that foot massager, it had a short that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn’t think you wanted to be in the dark.
Me: I’m sorry God.
GOD: Don’t be sorry, just learn to trust me . . . in all things, the good and the bad.
Me: I WILL trust you God.
GOD: And don’t doubt that my plan for your day is always better than your plan.
Me: I won’t God. And let me just tell you God, thank you for everything today.
GOD: You’re welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I love looking after my children.
I must admit that it is easier to see God’s hand and be thankful for His work when we are given a clear and obvious blessing than it is when some frustration crops up in our lives, but as He explained to this man, He is always there. He promised us He would never leave us or forsake us. When things we consider bad happen to us, we need to seek His wisdom and try to learn what good He has for us in those bad things.
Are you able to be thankful for the lumps as well as the smooth rides? For the warts as well as the beauty?

We’ll never know what God protects us from on a daily basis! Very good reminder that God has our backs, regardless of how we interpret it.

Keep planned that your children will be using the castle
so if you feel there is really a health and safety hazard do not take any risks.
If you are doing not have a very big garden you may be thinking that
you’ll be able to just disregard this information however there exists still a good deal that
you can do. Children will probably be dare devils and wish to jump of
things so you will need to educate them.

I spend very little time managing my website. Probably not enough, as a matter of fact. Some of my friends are always changing things to spruce up their blogs, but I struggle with all things technical and end up frustrated when I try to change things. I do, however, try to reply to ALL comments posted on my blogs.

I try to remember this any time my day isn’t going exactly as planned. As Paul said, now we see through a mirror darkly. We don’t know why bad things happen because we can’t see the other side.

I really appreciated your post today. Still, I can’t help but wonder what God would have to say to all those involved in Kandahar and others in devastating situations. Is it something like watching Norte Dame and Boston College praying at opposite ends of the field just before the big game? I suppose the point still is that we can’t know the big picture. ???

Great post, David! I’ve been in three major car accidents where I sustained injuries. I get that there were things for me to learn from each one (like slowing down and appreciating life in the moment). I’m kind of stubborn, so maybe I needed the extra emphasis. Heh.
For each, there were moments at the accident time where I felt God’s power…like kicking in my instinct to swerve for one and not swerve for another saving my life twice. I am also keenly aware of several accidents I’ve since driven by right after they happened and realizing I was delayed for some reason in getting there earlier. Many thanks for all of our blessings.

This is a great post, and very true. I don’t think we realize all the bad that doesn’t happen to us when God is in our lives. It’s really about appreciating what we have in life. I really like the direction your blog is heading.

This is a very good reminder, David. So many things that I thought were disasters (or at least frustrations) at the time turned out so much for the better. And just imagine how many more were that I didn’t understand ….. Thanks for your protection, God … and your reminder, David.
