God’s Protective Hand

Sunday morning, I got to see God’s hand at work. An answer to prayer appeared right before my eyes.

My wife Sharon left the house at 5:30 to take her best girlfriend to the airport. I was a bit concerned, because we were under storm warnings, and I was afraid she would have trouble getting there and back.

Not to embarrass her, but she’s the first to admit she’s not a great driver under the best of circumstances, and this didn’t look like the best. Born with a cataract in her left eye which in those days was not operable in a child, she has always had to get by with seeing through her right eye only. On top of that, I knew she couldn’t remember how to turn the defroster on in an emergency situation.

Sure enough, the storm hit with a vengeance while she was gone. She told me getting to the airport was fine, but it hit her on the way home. It was one of those where the rain hits the windshield so hard it’s difficult to see out. On top of that, the inside of the windshield began to fog up. She couldn’t find the settings for the defroster by feel, and she was afraid to take her eyes off the road for even a couple of seconds to try to find them.

As soon as I heard the storm hit, I began to pray for her safety. I told God I was afraid she might not be able to manage it on her own, and I asked Him to bring her home safely. I prayed several times while I waited for her.

Sure enough, when she pulled into the driveway and under the carport, she was almost catatonic with fear. She told me the only things she could see as she drove were the little reflectors imbedded in the road to mark the lane separation. She couldn’t see well enough to pull off onto the shoulder. All she could do was follow those reflectors.

Fortunately, the rain let up before she got to her exit, so she was able to find it. I don’t know what she would have done had it not abated.

When I told her I’d been praying for God to bring her home, she said that was probably the only thing that got her here. She didn’t believe she had done it under her own power alone. I reminded her that God never promised us there would be no storms, but He did promise He would be with us through the storms. I’m so thankful we have a God who is willing and able to take care of His people.

What examples of God’s protection have you experienced?

Hi David, As always, it’s a pleasure to read from you. As we know, we serve a Mighty God. I have seen God in action When I had a near death car accident in 2007, I died twice. The first time as I was in route to the hospital I remember nothing. When I was being operated on, on arrival to the hospital I saw and heard the doctors call a code Blue.I saw my Spirit leave my body as the room filled with doctors and nurses. They frantically worked on me All of a sudden I was standing in a room and the light was so Bright then Gabriel and Jesus were standing before me. Jesus never said a word, He just smiled with a smile i’ve never seen in my life. I remember saying that I wanted to see my Mom as she past away when I was 16yrs old. Gabriel said, “You need to go back” I then saw my Spirit go back into my body, and the doctor said “We have a Heart Beat.” At that point,I remember nothing until I woke in ICU 31 days from the coma I was in. I had tubes everywhere. As I looked around the room, every corner I looked in Jesus was standing there with the same Amazing Smile that I saw the first time. I then felt the Holy Spirit tell me that Jesus wanted me to know that I’d be okay and when the Doctors would tell me I would never walk again they would be wrong. For the 3 mos I was in ICU and the 10 months I was in the hospital, I saw Jesus in my room. I was than moved to Rehab for 11 mos, I saw Jesus every night before I slept. After being worked with, I was told by my doctor and Therapist a month prior to being discharged from Rehab that they were sorry, but i’d never walk again. I smiled and went home in a wheel chair a month later. After seeing Jesus everyday for the next 13 mos one day, The Holy Spirit told me that Jesus told me I needed to stand up and walk. Being depressed from losing my Husband 6 wks after my accident and not being able to see him buried, I did not listen to the message that I should stand and cried. 2 Wks later, The Holy Spirit told me again that Jesus told me to stand up and walk. The most Beautiful feeling came upon me and I asked my daughter to bring the walker to me. She told me “Mom, Please be careful.” My daughter put the walker in front of my wheel chair, I grabbed on to the walker as my Son and Daughter stood on either side of my chair and after trying 4 times, I stood up and started taking small steps. A month later, I went from using my walker, to 2 quad canes, than 1 quad cane and today, I rarely use the 1 cane. My doctors could not believe I was walking. I never saw Jesus after that. When I told the doctors as well as my children about my encounter with Jesus and Gabriel I was told by the doctor that it was all the meds I was on and my children agreed. I just smiled and told the doctor that I would agree to disagree. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Jesus Christ never left my side though out the entire time I recovered from the accident and today, I walk and do everything without effort. When i’m told by people that I beat all the odds from the accident, I just smile and say, ” Jesus Christ Beat them for me.”

    • What a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing it. How horrible for you physically, but how wonderful spiritually. When the cardiologist who told me on Friday I’d had a bad heart attack and would probably require heart surgery did a heart cath on Monday and could find no evidence I’d had a heart attack, he didn’t believe Jesus had healed me, either. A lot of people don’t believe Jesus delivered me from a 23-year nicotine addiction either. Well, the world is full of doubters and disbelievers. Don’t let them get you down.

Wow, what a terrifying experience for Sharon and you both, David! I’m thanking God too for bringing her home safely. Your prayers were vital. I have been in a few terrifying driving experiences too, and also felt that prayers were what got me to safety.

I praise God with you for Sharon’s safe journey!
As we were headed to church Sunday morning, the tornado sirens began to alert us of a possible tornado in our area! My husband said to me, “You know we are crazy driving in this weather!”
God allowed us safe travel the thirty miles to our church, for which we give Him praise and heartfelt thanks!

I do strongly believe that God was guiding me through “reflecting” his love. Your prayers, I feel, made a huge difference in my getting home safely. This weather has really been wicked, and the rain that morning was torrential. Thanks again for your strong faith and loving support.
