If you abide in Me and My word abides in you, then you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.
We interrupt this program for an important announcement. Regular programming will resume next Monday when we take a look together at some of God’s promises as recorded in His word.
But now . . . TA-DA: yours truly is finally a published author. Heaven Sent goes on sale on Amazon.com for Kindle downloads today. It was supposed to be ready yesterday, but, being the technical genius I am, I failed to click the final button to release it for publication. Oh, well . . . what’s a day among friends.
In case you didn’t get any of the champagne, this piece of cake is for you. Try not to spill crumbs everywhere. What? You want ice cream, too? Okay. Here’s a serving just for you.
Oh, all right. I’ll go get some chocolate syrup to put on it, but be sure to eat it before it melts and makes a mess. You know how you are.
Okay, now that we’ve passed out the refreshments, let’s get back to the book for a moment. At the present time, it’s only available for Kindle. After a 90-day exclusive I gave Amazon, it will be available on other e-readers as well. I’m sure I will eventually do a print version, but that’s a bit more expensive than e-pubbing, so for a senior citizen on a budget, that will have to wait for some royalties.
The book is a collection of stories I’ve read to my Sunday School class through the years I’ve been the class leader, along with my comments on them. My sister said she’d buy a copy, so I know it’s going to sell.
I hope a few more Christians will buy it, too. Actually, you don’t have to be born again to read this book—I’d welcome anyone to buy it. I think you’ll find a combination of comfort, inspiration and thought-stimulation if you do.
Whether it sells ten copies or a million, a portion of all proceeds will be donated to Christian ministries such as Teen Challenge, which is highly successful in turning alcoholics and drug addicts into sober, productive members of society, Union Gospel Mission, which helps people get off the streets and learn skills that will allow them to support themselves and become productive members of society, and Compassion International, which helps feed, clothe and shelter children in Latin America and Africa and spread the Gospel among them.
Thanks for joining me in this celebration. Now, I’d appreciate it if you’d take your dirty ice cream bowls, cake plates and champagne glasses into the kitchen and put them on the counter beside the sink. I’ll wash them if you’ll just bring them in.
David N. Walker is a Christian father and grandfather, a grounded pilot and a near-scratch golfer who had to give up the game because of shoulder problems. A graduate of Duke University, he spent 42 years as a health insurance agent. Most of that career was spent in Texas, but for a few years he traveled many other states. He started writing about 20 years ago, and has six unpublished novels to use as primers on how NOT to write fiction. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his non-fiction Heaven Sent: 67 Stories of Godly Thoughts and Inspiration and starting his new fiction work—a series of novellas set during the period from 1860 to 1880.

YAY, my brother is a published author! Congratulations, David! Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait for a Nook version before I can buy mine … or a print copy, which sounds like it will be later. I am really proud of you,

Major congratulations go out to you David! The cake and ice cream were lovely, by the way. I just now realized I haven’t made a similar announcement on my own small blog about my debut MG/YA novel that was released Friday. Now I need to go correct that. I hope you post some snippets, and I will catch up with you when your commitment with Amazon is fulfilled. I only own a Nook.

Thanks, Cordelia. Strangely, I only own a Nook also – but I understand 80-90% of e-pub sales are through Amazon.

Congratulations, David! And, yes, you can say you’ve sold two books. Just as soon as I sneak over to Amazon and download one to my Kindle. EEE! A run-a-way best-seller already!
Thank goodness I missed the cake and ice cream. I’ve passed my window of believability for calling my current belly situation “winter fluff.”
