Last week Janelle Madigan awarded me The Versatile Blogger Award. Caveats are:
1. That I post the logo along with this blog.
2. That I list seven things you may not know about me.
3. That I pass the award on to three other bloggers.
First of all, I want to thank Janelle for the award. I really appreciate it.
Secondly, I need to pass it along to three other bloggers. When I won another award recently, I avoided both my WWBC friends and my LLC friends because I was afraid of offending the ones I didn’t award it to. Think I’ll bite the bullet this time and not worry about that.
Here are the bloggers I’m awarding this to. I’m sure everyone who reads my blogs knows all three of them, but I’ll say a brief word about each.
Kristen Lamb, my dear friend and Warrior Writers Boot Camp co-founder, is a wife, mother and prolific writer. She has two NF books out there which most of you have read and is working with Ingrid Schaffenburg on a screenplay, along with blogging four times a week. Most of her blogs are about writing, but she covers the gamut about that subject.
Jenny Hansen, my co-Life Lister, is a wife, mother and very versatile blogger. She writes a series on Saturdays on problem births that keeps me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next edition. She also blogs on other subjects, including explaining technical things to dummies like me.
Catie Rhodes, a fellow Texan, blogs on various places and people involved in Texas history, as well as spooky things she finds here and there around the state. I know less about her personal life, but she’s an outstanding writer whose blogs frequently include large doses of humor.
I’m proud to award The Versatile Blogger Award to all three of these wonderful people. If you’re not following them, you should.
Now, for the seven things you probably don’t know about me:
1. I’m the most tech-unsavvy person on the internet. My WWBC buddies laugh all the time at the things I don’t know how to do.
2. Unlike almost every other writer on the planet, I read very little because of a reading disability. It takes me three or four times as long as most people to read a page.
3. Although some think I have attention deficit disorder, I really . . . ooh, look—a squirrel!
4. I’ll travel anywhere in the United States or Canada at the drop of a hat, but I have little interest in travel elsewhere.
5. I used to shoot near par on the golf course, but I’ve had to give the game up completely due to shoulder problems.
6. I have the smartest and most beautiful daughter on the planet. She gets her looks from her mother and her brains from my father. They were both high school valedictorians, but it skips a generation.
7. A judge in a cruise ship karaoke contest once told me I should give up my day job and pursue a career in country music. Unfortunately, I was nearly 66 at the time. I decided to pursue writing instead.
Well, there you have it. Now you know a lot more about me than you ever wanted to know.
David N. Walker is a Christian father and grandfather, a grounded pilot and a near-scratch golfer who had to give up the game because of shoulder problems. A graduate of Duke University, he spent 42 years as a health insurance agent. Most of that career was spent in Texas, but for a few years he traveled many other states. He started writing about 20 years ago, and has six unpublished novels to use as primers on how NOT to write fiction. Since his retirement from insurance a few years ago, he has devoted his time to helping Kristen Lamb start Warrior Writers’ Boot Camp and trying to learn to write a successful novel himself.

I am so very honored to be on this list! You even put me there with two of my very favorite bloggers. I reiterate the audiobook idea so you don’t have to give up the pleasure of books over a little reading issue.

It’s always fun getting to know a little more about our friends. A singer, eh? I think Kristen should commission you to entertain the troops at DFW! Audio books might be a good choice for, if you like to read.

How about audio books? Would that help you read faster? Personally I love when someone reads to me, thus I always have an audio book (usually more than one at any given time) at my fingertips 🙂
