My friend Marji Laine gifted me with the Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award the other day. Thanks, Marji. It’s my first award as a blogger.
The first thing I’m supposed to do, after thanking Marji for the award, is give the award away to four other bloggers. I read so many blogs it was difficult for me to choose just four, but I finally chose the following four the bestow with the Incredibly Sweet Blog Award:
Nigel Blackwell—http://www.nigelblackwell.com/. Nigel usually blogs about cars. An engineer from Great Britain, he’s difficult for us Texans to understand in person, but he writes a mean blog and has a wonderful sense of humor.
Karlene Pettit—http://karlenepetitt.blogspot.com/. Karlene is an airline pilot, and *raises eyebrows in surprise* she writes about flying and things related to flying. With her schedule, I don’t know how she does it, but her writing is very interesting.
Julie Cave—http://www.juliecave.com/. Julie is the author of a Christian fiction series featuring Dinah Harris’s crime-solving prowess.
Cari L. Pedstelak—http://audacityshewrote.wordpress.com. Cari is a fairly new blogger whose writing ability exceeds her self-confidence. Watch out when she figures out how good she is.
Finally, I’m supposed to list seven things you probably don’t know about me. Let’s see if I can think of that many:
1. I have a reading disorder. Is it okay for a writer to say that? I’m not dyslexic, but I read so slowly I occasionally bore myself to death getting through whatever I’m reading.
2. If I’d been born 30 years later, I have probably been diagnosed with AD . . . Wait! Is that a squirrel? What were we talking about?
3. My wife thinks I’m high-tech because I know how to turn on both the television and the computer. Actually, that’s about the extent of my tech knowledge. I constantly have to ask friends how to do this and what that means.
4. If I’d had 20/20 vision, I would have let the military train me for a career as a pilot. Since I don’t, I contented myself with a private pilot’s license, which I haven’t used in 30 years because of the skyrocketing cost of private flying.
5. I love British Columbia, and more specifically, I think Butchart Gardens (on Vancouver Island near Victoria) and the Inside Passage from Port Hardy (near the northern tip of Vancouver Island) to Prince Rupert (near the Alaska border) are two of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
6. Coming from Texas, where a big river is one that has water in it year-round, I’m in awe of places like Niagara Falls or the 4.5 mile wide mouth of the Columbia River near Astoria, Oregon, where the sheer volume of water going by every second boggles my mind.
7. I’ve actually been to Luckenbach, Texas, but I didn’t see Waylon or Willie there. The song is much bigger than the town. In fact, I’m not sure anyone actually lives there.
Well, there you have it. Now you all know much more than you ever wanted to know about me.
Bio:
A graduate of Duke University, I spent 42 years as a health insurance agent. Most of my career was spent in Texas, but for a few years I traveled many other states. I started writing about 20 years ago, and have six unpublished novels to use as primers on how NOT to write fiction. Since my retirement from insurance a few years ago, I have devoted my time to helping Kristen Lamb start Warrior Writers’ Boot Camp and trying to learn to write a successful novel myself.

So you’ve actually been to Luckenbach. When I moved to Texas someone told me I should go … that was 15 years ago, but it’s still on my to-do list!

*gasps* Oh. My. Gosh. Thank you, David! I don’t know whether to be humble or to do a happy dance across the room. Hmmm… Well, it would appear that most everyone but me seems to believe I have a writing ability so maybe it’s time to allow myself a humble happy dance. Okay. Yeah. That felt pretty good, actually. 😉 Congrats on your award, too, David! I hope you did a happy dance, too, because you definitely deserve it. 😀 I can’t wait to go blog-hopping & read your other picks.
You mean I’m not the only blogger/writer with A.D… Oh look! A shiny, glittering, jewel-encrusted squirrel! Sparklies! Oh crud. Where was I going with that? Durn squirrel probably chewed that particular wire clean through whilst stealing more shiny things with which to distract me by now.
David, Karlene’s right. You should get up in the air again. Having a pilot’s license is one of those things that was on my list of ‘someday’ when I was younger that somehow managed to transport itself over to the list of ‘probably never’, so don’t let go to waste things others can only dream of. 😉
I’d love to see British Columbia one day. After seeing all the scenery they showed during the Olympics, visiting there got slapped right onto my list of ‘someday’. You are so fortunate to have seen it with your own eyes & not just on the television screen. Your obvious adoration for it just put it even further up on my list.
I may live in the Great Lakes State, but I am just as in awe of beautiful waterfalls & bodies of water as you are. There is hardly anything more hypnotic than watching the water cascade over the various levels of Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Lake Superior is absolutely breathtaking as well. There’s some places for you to put on your list for when you get back up in the air. *giggles* See how I just slipped Karlene’s hint/advice back in there? 😉
